About the role
Kareri Inc. is a wholesale jewellery business in Port Hope, Ontario, sourcing collections from international suppliers, including suppliers in Turkey. We are hiring a Wholesale Buyer to select and purchase jewellery for resale to our wholesale customers. You will manage supplier relationships, decide what and how much to buy, and keep our collections current with market trends.
Main duties
Purchase jewellery merchandise for resale to wholesale customers
Review customer needs, sales history and inventory levels to determine the quantity and type of merchandise to purchase
Study market reports, trade publications and fashion trends in jewellery designs, colours and seasonal collections
Visit trade shows and showrooms, and review supplier catalogues and samples, to select merchandise
Evaluate products for quality, design, pricing and market demand
Identify new suppliers and collections; establish and maintain contact with existing suppliers
Negotiate prices, discounts, credit terms, preferential rates, delivery schedules and transportation arrangements with suppliers
Prepare purchase orders and maintain accurate purchasing records
Monitor stock levels, determine replenishment needs and oversee distribution of merchandise to customers and outlets
Merchandising duties
Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and supplier invoices, and resolve discrepancies with suppliers
Classify purchased merchandise by collection, style, colour and product code
Plan the presentation of collections, coordinating styles and colours on display trays
Keep the wholesale showroom organized and ready for customer visits
Requirements
Education: College diploma, preferably in business, marketing, fashion merchandising or a related program
Experience: 2 to 3 years of related experience in a retail or wholesale setting; jewellery experience preferred
Languages: English, spoken and written. Turkish is an asset
Skills:
Knowledge of jewellery styles, colours and fashion trends
Strong negotiation and supplier relationship skills
Accuracy and attention to detail with products, pricing and records
Organized, with good time management under tight deadlines
Sound judgement, initiative and analytical ability
Excellent oral and written communication; works well on a team
Work conditions
Wholesale showroom and office environment
Attendance at trade shows and supplier events
Mostly day hours, with evening and flexible hours during trade show preparation, special events and high season
Prolonged sitting and standing; handling shipments and jewellery trays
Tight deadlines and repetitive tasks requiring close attention to detail
