Job Description

We are currently looking for two experienced individuals to fill the position of "Chef" at our restaurant Indraprastha Indian Cuisine Whitby location.

Our restaurant, Indraprastha Indian Cuisine Ltd. is located in Whitby, Ontario, we focus on giving our customers an extraordinary and authentic dining experience with the best quality services. Our restaurant offers and specializes in South Indian Cuisine with a range of rich Indian spices that are blended in ever recipe. We are looking to add two unique and specialized chefs o join our amazing team!

The candidates must be able to communicate in English and have a minimum of a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. The candidate must also have a minimum of two (2) years to less than two (3) years’ experience in a related restaurant position.

The tasks and responsibilities of the position include, Preparing and cooking complete meals or individual dishes and foods for customers and for events such as banquets. You will be tasked with preparing dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances. The candidate will plan menus, determine size of food portions, estimate food requirements and costs, and monitor and order supplies. You must inspect kitchens and food service areas, making sure they are well maintained. You will be in charge of training staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food, supervising kitchen staff and helpers, and recruit and hire staff. You will be in charge of ordering supplies and equipment, maintaining inventory and records of food supplies and equipment. You will be in charge of demonstrating new cooking techniques and new equipment to cooking staff and supervise activities of specialist chefs, chefs, cooks and other kitchen workers. You will instruct cooks in preparation, cooking and garnishing as well as the presentation of food. You will also be in charge of creating new recipes when required. You will be required to prepare and cook food on a regular basis and for special guests or functions and cook meals and specialty foods. You will requisition food and kitchen supplies.

The ideal candidate must be able to work under pressure and pay close attention to detail. You must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and work under tight deadlines. The job can be psychically demanding at times, as you will be standing for extended periods of time.

The work site environment is noisy and hot at times and is a non-smoking environment. The work setting is a busy restaurant bar in an urban area. Supervision will include 5-10 people.

We require the candidate to have experience and specialization in South Indian Cuisine specialties as well as specialties with eggs and dairy, fish and seafood, Meat, poultry and game as well as stocks, soups and sauces.

The ideal candidate will be a leader. they will be dependable and have efficient interpersonal skills. You must be organized, reliable and flexible and be a team player who is able to take initiative.

This is a permanent and full-time position requiring (37.5 hours/week) with an hourly pay of $22.00/hour. We are accepting applications from Canadian citizens and permanent or temporary residents of Canada.
